Widow's Mite Necklace

  • $56.99

The mite was a Jewish coin and the smallest used in New Testament time. At the time of Mark's writing, it was worth 1/64 of a denarius. A denarius was a day's wage for a common worker. In today's terms, it would be worth about 1/8 of a cent.  Mark writes in his gospel (Mark 12:41-44):

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury.  Many rich people threw in large amounts.  But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.  Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.  They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything - all she had to live on."

Wear this necklace as a reminder that, no matter how small we feel our contribution is, if we give from the depths of our hearts and with the entirety of our faith, that is all that matters.

This necklace measures 16"L and has a 3" extender.  The two mite pendants measure approximately 3/4" in diameter.

Jewelry Care Tips:

* Do not wear jewelry in the swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna/steam room or while bathing.  Chlorine, detergents, oils and perfumes can all cause tarnishing or damage.

* Make up, perfume and hairspray all contain chemicals which may dull the finish of the jewelry,  Always put jewelry on last as a finishing touch.

* To clean your jewelry, use a dry, clean cloth.  Never use jewelry cleaner and never submerge in water.

* Thoroughly dry your jewelry after any accidental exposure to water.  Moisture can cause tarnishing and may weaken springs and clasps.
